The gold hardware might also point to this.ī) #34346 was originally a Blonde finish, refinished to Fiesta Red at the factory. I can come up with only two explanations for an Ash body:Ī) #34346 was some kind of custom order/special edition to begin with. At this time, ALL solid color Strats used Alder as the body wood, and ONLY Blonde finishes used Ash! (confirmed this from - an excellent site with LOTS of info on vintage Fenders) However, the original guitar's serial #34346 indicates it's an early 1959 model. Both of these have a body made out of Ash according to the specs I've seen. There are at least two reissues that I know of: a Japanese one made in the 90s, and the Fender USA Custom Shop HBM 40th Anniversary model made in 1998. What puzzles me the most is the body wood of this guitar. Most of you reading this post probably know the story of this guitar, how it was ordered straight from the factory to the UK, how the color differs from the Fender catalogue etc. Which led me to Hank Marvin's 1959 Strat, serial #34346. Upon trying to decide which Strat model to go for, I've done a lot of research on my favorite Strat players' guitar specs. ![]() I've been following this excellent forum for a couple of years already, but registered only recently, and here's my first post - Strat related, though I'm mainly a Tele guy! Listening to a lot of Buddy Holly & The Crickets, and The Shadows lately did the trick I guess: I'm thinking of getting my first "good" Strat.
